How can I remove mold from tent fabric?

Er bestaan geen veilige middelen, preventie is belangrijk

Mold on tent fabric usually develops when moisture, dirt, and heat are present for an extended period of time. That’s why prevention is always better than cure: only store your Holtkamper for an extended period of time when the tent fabric is completely dry.

Has mold developed after all? If so, it’s important to first determine what type of tent fabric your Holtkamper has, because the proper treatment depends on that.

For uncoated TenCate tent fabric, we do not recommend using chlorine, as it can discolor and damage the fabric. The maintenance instructions provided recommend a 1:1 mixture of cleaning vinegar and water for algae and mold. Apply this gently with a soft brush; do not scrub hard, and then rinse the fabric thoroughly. Re-impregnation may be necessary after intensive cleaning.

For coated TenCate tent fabric, a mild chlorine solution is recommended: 1 part chlorine to 10 parts water. Let it sit for a short time, brush gently, and then rinse thoroughly with plenty of water. Do not use cleaning vinegar on coated fabric.

Is the stain severe, or are you unsure what type of tent fabric you have? If so, we recommend that you don’t just try out different cleaning products. If in doubt, contact a specialist or have the tent fabric professionally cleaned.

The most important tip remains: make sure the tent fabric is always completely dry before folding up the folding trailer for an extended period. This will significantly reduce the risk of mold growth.
