A clean tent fabric not only stays looking good longer, but also lasts longer. After a vacation, all sorts of things can end up on the fabric, such as dust, bird droppings, tree sap, berries, or other stains. The proper way to clean it depends on the type of tent fabric used in your Holtkamper.
Holtkamper primarily uses uncoated TenCate tent fabric. This fabric breathes well and helps create a comfortable indoor climate. In the past, some models were also supplied with coated TenCate tent fabric, which feels slightly smoother and stiffer.
Cleaning Uncoated TenCate Tent Fabric
For uncoated tent fabric, the following applies: handle the fabric as gently as possible.
- Do not use all-purpose cleaner, dish soap, or other soap-based products.
- It is best to let dirt and stains dry thoroughly first.
- Remove dry dirt with a soft brush.
- Use lukewarm water only when necessary.
- Do not scrub or rub too hard, as this can actually work the dirt deeper into the cloth.
- Always let the tent fabric dry completely after cleaning.
It’s best to let bird droppings and berries dry first and then remove them carefully. Any remaining stains often fade on their own when exposed to sunlight.
You can let the resin or candle wax harden and then carefully scrape it off with, for example, a small spoon or the blunt edge of a knife.
For stubborn stains, you can use a cleaning agent specifically designed for uncoated tent fabric. Always use it sparingly and follow the manufacturer’s instructions.
Cleaning Coated TenCate Tent Fabric
Does your Holtkamper tent have a coated fabric? If so, it’s best to remove stains as soon as possible using lukewarm water and a soft cloth or brush.
Here, too, it’s best to avoid cleaning products that contain soap. You can let resin or candle wax harden and then carefully remove it. Do not use resin removers on coated fabric, as they can damage the coating.
In cases of severe contamination
Is the tent fabric heavily soiled, or are you unsure what type of fabric your Holtkamper has? If so, we recommend that you avoid experimenting with different cleaning products. Use only products that are suitable for the specific type of tent fabric, or have the fabric professionally cleaned.
After cleaning, it is important to make sure the tent is completely dry before folding up the Holtkamper for an extended period. This will prevent mold and keep the tent fabric in good condition for as long as possible.
