A Holtkamper can withstand strong winds, but during a storm, it’s important to set up and secure the folding trailer properly. The exact procedure depends on the wind direction, the setup, and whether you’re using the front wall.
Are strong winds or a storm forecast? If so, be sure to keep the following points in mind:
- Use the storm ties. Attach these to the designated green loops on the awning and secure them with sturdy stakes suitable for the ground.
- Do not use fixed, non-elastic guy lines. The storm straps are specifically designed to absorb gusts of wind and move with them.
- Is the wind blowing directly at the front, and have you not set up a windbreak? Then remove the side panels so that the wind can pass under the awning, reducing the pressure on the structure.
- Use the awning pole only in combination with the front wall.
- With the front panel in place, your Holtkamper is even better protected from the wind. In that case, always use the storm straps for extra support.
- Put away any loose items around the folding trailer. Think of chairs, tables, and other camping gear that could blow away in strong winds.
- Are you going away for the day and is stormy weather forecast? If so, put the storm straps on as a precaution.
The most important thing is that the awning can move freely in strong winds and isn’t secured too tightly. This helps it better withstand sudden gusts of wind.
