Jelle Holtkamp Sr., the progenitor of today’s Holtkamper brand, went to Ameland as early as 1928 with a tent of his own design. He had it made at a workshop in the northern Netherlands. In Ter Apel, Groningen, where he started as a bookkeeper and later had his own village store where eventually ‘Holtkamp’ tents were also sold. Also folding trailers and other camping products were later added to the assortment.
