At Holtkamper, we love camping, innovation, comfort and… cryptic English terms!

But what does that “WindForce” System really mean? Or “Pack N GO…”? No, we don’t have a packing service, unfortunately…. 🙂

Below you will find our typical Holtkamper names, translated into clear and understandable Dutch. In other words: Holtkamper for Dummies!

Tent trailer: Folding trailer (or folding cart).

WindForce: Automatic inflation system by means of a large fan, which allows the trailer tent to stand within minutes, without loose poles or guy ropes. Basically an inflatable trailer tent.

Pack N Go: The system to easily pack and unpack the trailer tent at home, without having to unfold the whole trailer tent. Ideal when there is limited space at home to set up the whole trailer tent.

Membrane Airco tent system: The double roof of our trailer tents. Here the inner layer is fitted with breathable (membrane) material. This creates better insulation and more air circulation for a more pleasant indoor climate in the tent.

All Climate® windows: These are the windows in the Holtkamper, Standard equipped with mosquito netting on the outside, clear plastic windows and curtains. The windows can be opened on the inside in different positions. A trailer tent with good ventilation and lots of light, adaptable for every season.

MTT: This stands for “Multi talent trailer…” well that doesn’t make it any clearer either.

Originally the name for a folding trailer with a longer chassis, the rear part of which could be used for anything. Multi talent so to speak. We now only put kitchens on the back of it, but never changed the name to Single Talent Trailer.

So now just say “with kitchen.” So an Aero MTT, is an Aero folding trailer tent with luxury kitchen. So for the observant reader, the Aero WindForce MTT is an inflatable Aero with luxury kitchen.

Sunrise Canopy: This is an additional feature to the awning on some Cocoon models. By adding an extra pole to the middle awning pole that is adjustable in height, the front part of the awning can also be pulled up or down. You then create a kind of awning on your awning.

Hub chub system: A lever system in the trailer tent like in the frame of our Holtkamper Aero and Kyte. To manually erect the folding trailer without too much force.

No Pole Awning: The well-known and now very recognizable floating canopy without upright poles of the Holtkamper Aero, Kyte and Nano.

Bisonyl: Bisonyl is a strong and waterproof PVC-coated cloth, It is used for a variety of applications such as truck tarps, tarpaulins because of its high strength, durability and abrasion resistance. So ideal for use of our green Softtops.

Soft top: A trailer tent with a tarpaulin. At Holtkamper this is the soft green Bisonyl tarpaulin used to close the Holtkamper Cocoon, Aero and Kyte. The advantage of this is that more luggage can be carried because of space under the Softtop.

Hard top: A folding trailer with hard top / bottom like the Holtkamper Nano and Astro. The advantage of this is that there is no direct contact with the ground and also no ground sheet that you have to clean and let dry thoroughly before packing the wagon.

Holtkamper Cocoon Modular: A reconditioned Holtkamper Cocoon. This involves overhauling a used chassis and tent frame and making it technically sound again. The reconditioned vehicle is then fitted with a new cockpit, soft top and new tent so that it can last for years again.

Have you ever heard it? People who camp crep call it?

At Holtkamper we always have to laugh a little about this. Because the days of freezing cold, pain in your back and draughts in your neck are really over. In a Holtkamper trailer tent you sleep just as well as at home. Even better: we even dare to say that sleeping in a Holtkamper can be even nicer. Because what could be better than waking up rested, after a wonderful night’s sleep under canvas and in the open air, with the sound of birds in the background?

The following five reasons ensure that sleeping with a Holtkamper is guaranteed!

1. Reversible mattress with two firmness levels.

What many people don’t know is that all our mattresses are reversible are. One side is more firmerthe other softerSo you can always choose the comfort that suits you.

• Blue side: HR40 Medium: somewhat firmer, ideal for back and side sleepers
• Pink lace: HR40 Soft: wonderfully soft, yet supportive

In addition, our mattresses are made of cold foam. That material has important advantages:

• Excellent ventilation: Prevents clammy feeling and keeps the bed dry.
• High resilience: Ideal for good support even after years of use.
• Longevity: Barely deforms, remains comfortable.
• Constant sleeping temperature: warm in winter, cool in summer.

So you are not sleeping on a camping mat or air mattress, but on a full-fledged mattress that you would want to put on your bed at home.

 

2. A full slatted base

Under each Holtkamper mattress you will find a real slatted base. Not a board, not a wooden plate, but a comfortable, springy base that distributes your body weight evenly. And Holtkamper slatted bases are extra special because they contain two individual zones.

Two individual zones = less movement, more rest

Each sleeper has their own slatted zone, this means:

• Does one move? then the other barely feels it
• Your body is better supported per person
• No “seesaw effect” as on one continuous bottom
• Quieter, more stable, calmer

Result: No more counting sheep! You sleep deeper and undisturbed, even when sleeping together.

 

3. You sleep not on, but above the ground

Unlike tents and some folding trailers, the sleeping cabin of a Holtkamper is located in the trailer area. As a result:

• Is there no direct contact with cold ground
• Do you have less affected by drafts
• And keeps the bed dryer and warmer, even in humid weather

This really makes a huge difference to your sleep, especially in early and late season.

 

4. A generous bed size of 210 × 155 cm

Do you like to sleep a little more spaciously? In a Holtkamper you get more than average: our beds have a generous size of 210 × 155 cm. That is longer and wider than in many campers, caravans and tents.

That is:

• More spacious than an average double bed in many caravans
• Comfortable for tall people (no feet outboard!)
• Larger than most beds in folding trailers or tent trailers, which often stick around 200 × 140 cm

 

5. No more making your bed every night

Did you know that on most Holtkamper models you can simply leave the bed made up when you fold the trailer tent to drive to the next destination?

And that means: No more making your bed after a long day of travel.

Because say it yourself: there is nothing more annoying than trying to plop down in your bed at night only to find out that the bed still needs to be made? With a Holtkamper, that’s a thing of the past!

With the Nano and Astro, by the way, we do recommend storing the cushions in the Pack-N-Go because of the hardtop, but everything else can just stay put.

 

Sleep like home, but with the most beautiful view

Those were them: the five main reasons why you sleep just as well (or even better!) in a Holtkamper than at home. But what completes it all? That typical Holtkamper feeling:

Practical: how does it work?

The warehouse sale takes place upstairs in our showroom in Utrecht at Heldinnenlaan 211B. You can just walk in during our opening hours. We have the items displayed on tables and everything has a price. You can easily pay cash or pin.

• The camping accessories are general items that we no longer have in our portfolio

One of the most frequently asked questions by campers: how fast can you drive with a trailer tent behind the car?

The answer is a little more winding than initially expected, because it depends on the country you are driving in, the weight of your combination and sometimes even the technical condition of the trailer tent. In this blog, we explain it clearly for you, so that you are well prepared to hit the road.

 

In the Netherlands: maximum 90 km/h

In the Netherlands, a speed limit of 90 km/h applies to cars with a folding trailer (or trailer).

So that’s always the limit, even if your trailer is light and your car could effortlessly handle more.

The reason? Safety! A trailer (or folding trailer) affects the handling of your car because of its extra length and weight. The extra weight makes the braking distance longer. Wind sensitivity is also higher.

Also pay attention at route controls! Some section controls also register driving with a trailer. The section control may indicate 100km/h, but for driving with a trailer, 90km/h remains the speed limit.

💡 Tip: Always make sure the drawbar pressure is set properly and your trailer is loaded properly. Improper distribution can cause swaying at higher speeds. The maximum nose weight of our Holtkamper trailer tents is 75kg (except the Offroad models).

Abroad: different rules

Are you crossing the border with your Holtkamper? Then the rules change.
Each country has its own speed limits for combinations with trailers or caravans. Below is a handy list of the most popular camping countries:

The secret behind the lightning-fast set-up of Holtkamper

Every camper knows the moment of arrival at the campsite: long journey behind, everyone is tired and ready to relax, but the camping equipment still needs to be set up before eating and sleeping. Tent poles, canvas, pegs, lifting, pulling…. with many folding tents, it takes time, effort and sometimes even two people.

Holtkamper takes a completely different approach to this. In fact, thanks to the patented WindForce® system, the tent of the trailer tent automatically unfolds using air pressure. The result: can be put up by one person at the push of a button. And even the Holtkamper trailer tents that do not have this system can all be put up by one person. So camping without the hassle.

Quickly set up without effort

With the WindForce® system, traditional setup work is a thing of the past. The fan creates a controlled airflow that allows the tent to unfold on its own. The system takes most of the work off your hands and makes putting up the tent surprisingly easy. An inflatable trailer tent!

How exactly does the WindForce® system work?

The WindForce® system is a clever tool for pitching and folding certain Holtkamper models, such as the current Aero and the Kyte. Under the raised bed is a powerful fan that blows air into the tent. When the tent is closed, excess pressure is created, causing the tent to unfold on its own.

Very simply put: The fan blows air into the closed tent → the tent fills with air → the trailer tent folds out automatically.

Do you want to leave again? Then exactly the opposite happens: the system sucks the air out.

The tent is sealed, draws vacuum, and the gas springs then help to fold the tent effortlessly. The combination of airflow and gas springs makes the whole process smooth, controlled and fully automatic.

Fall is once again upon us. For many campers, that means shorter days, colorful forests and crisp mornings with a hot cup of coffee in front of the tent. But autumn also brings turbulent weather: wind, rain and sometimes even storms.

Fortunately, as a Holtkamper camper, you don’t have to let that stop you. Our tent trailers are designed and tested to remain reliable even in challenging conditions: from the rugged plains of Iceland to the high cliffs of Brittany. Or during a severe storm in Zeeland, as in the video below from our colleague Gert-Jan.

Yet we regularly get the question: “Now what is the best approach when the wind blows hard?”

Therefore, we have listed the most important tips and points of interest for you, so that you can enjoy your Holtkamper in autumn as well.

General storm tips for your Holtkamper

Always tension well
Make sure your Holtkamper is securely pegged all around.

Secure awning points properly
With the Aero, Kyte or Nano, always secure the awning points with at least five pegs. To do this, use the long pegs and hit the rubber bands double.

Wind from the front? Unzip sidewalls
Is the wind blowing and are you using the awning without the front wall? Then first unzip the side walls. This allows the wind to escape better and prevents the awning from acting like a sail.

Use storm straps
When in doubt, always do it! Attach the storm rubber bands to the green bisonyllus and secure with a sturdy peg. The elastic allows the awning to move with you and absorbs hard blows better.

No fixed guy ropes
Never use rigid guy ropes. These do not absorb impacts and can actually cause tension on the canvas – resulting in possible damage.

Front wall attached?
Do you have the front wall in the awning? The sidewalls can remain in place. Make sure that the awning with the front wall is tightened with storm straps.

If the wind really gets too strong…

Sometimes it simply becomes too much of a burden. Then it is wise to temporarily pack up the awning. There are two ways to do this:

1. Fold awning over the wagon (the quick method).

1. Remove the front and side panels.
2. Take out the kitchen and canopy arch.
3. Lower the mast.
4. Fold the awning over the wagon so that the awning tips hang over the back of the roof.
5. Secure the awning points to the back of the wagon.

This method takes little time and is ideal if you need to act quickly.

2. Canopy rolling up and securing (the complete method)

1. Remove the front and side panels.
2. Take out the kitchen and canopy arch.
3. Lower the mast.
4. Roll up the awning (easiest to do with two people).
5. Secure the roller to the front of the roof with the toggles and included green straps.

This is a slightly more elaborate approach, but ensures neat and safe storage.

Always be prepared

Whether you’re camping in the Netherlands or adventuring on the coast of Brittany, the weather can change quickly. With good preparation and the right storm tips, you can be sure of worry-free camping, even in autumn.

So put on a warm sweater, make a pot of strong coffee and enjoy the unique camping feeling your Holtkamper gives you. Because weather or no weather: your adventure never stops.
