With proper maintenance, the tent fabric of your Holtkamper will stay beautiful, water-repellent, and in good condition for years to come. Fortunately, maintenance isn’t complicated. Keeping it clean, ventilating it well, and letting it dry completely make a big difference.
These tips will help you prevent unnecessary wear and tear, mold growth, and stubborn stains:
- Never use all-purpose cleaner or dish soap. These substances can impair the water-repellent properties of the tent fabric.
- Regularly brush dust and loose dirt off the cloth with a soft brush. This will prevent dirt from causing black stains when the cloth gets wet.
- For stains, it is best to use only lukewarm water. Do not scrub a damp stain vigorously with a brush or cloth, as this can actually cause the stain to set deeper into the fabric. Let the fabric dry thoroughly; any remaining stains will often fade on their own due to the sun’s UV rays.
- Do you have resin on the cloth? Let it harden completely first, and then carefully remove it with a spoon or the blunt edge of a knife.
- Remove bird droppings as soon as possible. Use lukewarm water and let the cloth dry thoroughly afterward. In this case as well, any remaining stains will often disappear on their own when exposed to sunlight.
- Clean the removable lip guards regularly. A good time to do this is on the last day of your vacation. Take them apart, clean them with lukewarm water, and let them dry completely before putting them back away.
- Prevent mold by ensuring adequate ventilation and keeping the area dry. Be sure to also check the space between the inner and outer tents of the Membrane roof. This area must also be completely dry before you fold up the Holtkamper for an extended period.
- Try to avoid folding the fabric while it’s wet as much as possible. Do you have to pack up the tent while it’s still wet because of rain? If so, unfold the Holtkamper again as soon as possible—preferably within 12 hours—to allow the tent fabric to dry completely.
- Are you storing your Holtkamper for an extended period? Always check to make sure the entire tent fabric—including the parts that are harder to see—is completely dry.
With a little care during and after your camping trip, not only will your tent fabric stay in good condition longer, but you’ll also reduce the risk of mold, odors, and damage.
