With proper maintenance, the tent canvas of your Holtkamper will remain beautiful, water-repellent and in top condition for years. Fortunately, maintaining the canvas is not complicated at all, as long as you know what to look out for. The tips below will prevent unnecessary wear, mildew and stubborn stains, so you can enjoy your trailer tent carefree on every camping trip.
– Never use all-purpose cleaner or detergent. These affect the water-repellent impregnating agent.
– Brush dust from the cloth regularly with a soft brush. This prevents black stains when the cloth gets wet.
Use only lukewarm water to rinse away stains and allow to dry thoroughly. Note that rubbing out a damp stain with a brush or cloth can actually make the stain worse. UV radiation from the sun will often make residual stains disappear.
– Do not remove resin until it is hard. Then gently scratch it away with a spoon or the blunt side of a knife.
– Remove bird droppings as soon as possible. Use lukewarm water and allow to dry; any residual stains often disappear with the sun’s UV rays.
– Clean the removable swallow edges on the last day. Remove them and clean with lukewarm water and let everything dry thoroughly.
– Prevent mold by ventilation and dryness. Also check that the space between inner and outer tent (Membrane roof) is dry.
– Try to avoid wet folding of the tent fabric, if nothing else, we recommend unfolding the trailer within 8 hours.
– Make sure the tent is completely dry if it remains folded for an extended period of time.
